Why do people collect Beanie Boos? Ask anyone who owns forty of them

Every Beanie Boo has a name, a birthday and a short poem printed inside its heart tag. That little detail explains most of what follows. It means so much, makes each personal, like family.

A child who receives Slush the husky is not holding a generic plush dog. They are holding Slush, born on the 15th of January, with his own rhyme. Two weeks later they spot Fantasia the unicorn in a shop and the question is never whether they want a plush unicorn. It is whether Slush needs a friend. He does, obviously.

We are grateful to see many collectors on their journey, some have been with us for more than 15 years. It is wonderful helping them, serving them and sharing their love.

That is how collections start, and it is why they keep going. Ty retires designs regularly, so the range is always shifting. The character your child adores this year may not be made next year, which turns an ordinary toy purchase into something closer to a treasure hunt. Adult collectors chase retired Boos for exactly this reason.

The other thing that makes Beanie Boos such an easy collectable is the price. Most regular size Boos cost around ten to twelve dollars, so a collection can grow through pocket money, tooth fairy visits and good report cards without anyone needing a loan. Compare that with most collectables aimed at adults and it looks very sensible indeed.

Our tip for new collectors: keep the heart tags on and in good condition, pick a shelf out of direct sunlight, and let the collector choose their own. The joy is in the choosing.
